The catalog of Joe Gibbs must have been just about exhausted so 17 North Parade is now focusing on the releases of Winston Holnes aka Niney The Observer (a nickname he got after suffering an accident in a workshop and losing a thumb). In a box filled with Observer material Dennis Brown can of course not be missing; the 'Deep Down' album would prove a milestone in his career, something that is reflected in the track list as it contains many a classic tune ('So Long Rastafari', 'You're No Good', 'Voice Of The Father'...). The Heptones' 'Better Days' is a slightly lesser known roots gem from the period when Leroy Sibbles had just left the band to pursue a solo career with Dolphin 'Naggo' Morris replacing him as lead vocalist. Be sure to check the great version of Elvis Presley's 'Suspicious Minds'! 'The Observer Book Of I-Roy' is not really a reissue of an existing album but a collection of the most important singles veteran deejay I Roy recorded for the Observer label. Icing on the cake is 'Observation Of Life Dub', an album filled with splendid Observer dubs. More than solid compilation box.
