Our review of the first volume in Greensleeves' Evolution Of Dub series might have been a tad brief, but, in our defense, we only disposed of a so-called blank review copy: a compilation of the four discs present in the box. Volume 2, 'The Great Leap Forward', has just hit the shelves and this time we were sent a retail version. We already mentioned that this is a series that, in seven boxes of four CDs each, wants to provide an overview of the evolution that the dub has gone through over the past few decades. Both the title and artwork are a nod to 'On The Origin Of Species', the standard work in which Charles Darwin set out his theory of evolution, celebrating its 150th jubilee this year. These aren't compilation sets, but reissues of classic and crucial dub albums (for Volume 2: 'Brass Rockers', 'Rasta Dub 76', 'Aggrovators Meet The Revolutionaires At Channel One Studios' and 'Sledgehammer Dub'). The box mainly focusses on The Aggrovators, a group of musicians who usually worked for producer Bunny Lee and were led by Tommy McCook and The Revolutionaires, led by Sly Dunbar and responsible for much of the session work for the Hookim brothers at Channel One.
