When in 1967 cities like London and San Francisco were submerged in the Summer of Love, Nigeria was torn apart by civil war (On May 30th 1967 rebel leader Chukwuemeka Ojukwu declared the independence of eastern Nigeria, calling it the Republic of Biafra. This resulted in a civil war that lasted until January 1970. One of the main causes of that war was the discovery of oil in Biafra. The estimations of the resulting death toll vary widely, at least half a million people died, but according to some observers as much as 2 million people were killed). The psychedelic grooves of the end of the sixties only reached Nigeria at the beginning of the next decade. For this compilation Soundway Records collected 33 tracks perfectly summarizing the afro-rock and psychedelic music from that period.
