A little over a month after Suga Roy & Conrad Crystal's tribute album, VP Records now also pays tribute to the Cool Ruler. Initiator of the project was saxophonist and producer Dean Fraser who, as a member of the We The People Band shared the stage with Gregory Isaacs for many years. Much of a budget Fraser didn't have, but more than a few phone calls Dean apparently didn't need to convince a whole series of young Jamaican artists to lend their voices to one of Isaacs many hits. As a bonus VP Records added an extra disc with instrumental versions of the same songs (recorded by Dean Fraser in less than a day!). We were especially taken by the erotic sounding version of 'Soon Forward' by Cherine Anderson, Duane Stephenson's interpretation of 'The Border' closely resembling the original and a damn nice singing Busy Signal on 'Hard Drugs'. The only thing yours truly actually missed on this compilation was the voice of Gregory himself. Successful tribute!
