Yours truly learned the history of the Caribou label thanks to the 'Soundman Shots, The Caribou & Downbeat 78's Story' compilation and with its latest release 'You'll Never Know: 18 Caribou Ska Selection' the Japanese Drum & Bass label now also focuses on the productions of pioneer Dada Tewari. Where 'Soundman Shots' highlighted the mento and calypso releases of the label, 'You'll Never Know' focusses on the early ska and rhythm and blues on the island. The music on this compilation is almost half a century old (!) and many of the songs have what you might call a nostalgic sound. Add to this the exceptional liner notes, illustrated with beautiful black and white photos (a very young beardless Rico Rodriguez!) and you have the perfect gadget for the selective collector.
