On his second album Blick Bassy continues to excel at the ideal Sunday morning music, but 'Hongo Calling' might groove a bit more than predecessor 'Léman'. The album may be Bassy's ode to hongo, a trance inducing rhythm from Bassa-culture, it's the Brazilian influences in his songs that yet again stick out (a Brazilian cuíca on 'Liké' and Lenine, a singer-songwriter from Recife, certainly no unknown for amateurs of modern Brazilian music, providing some vocal aid); not surprising maybe when you know much of the album was recorded in Rio de Janeiro.
