In his native Burkina Faso, Victor Démé has been playing music for over thirty years, released numerous cassette tapes and basically is a big star, but with this untitled album released on his own Chapa Blues label and distributed by Makasound, Démé is now taking a shot at an international career. Against local griot traditions Victor didn't inherit his musical talent from his father (who earned a living as a tailor), but from his mother, a popular local singer at baptisms and wedding events in Bobo-Dioulasso (the second largest city in Burkina Faso). Victor Démé's sound is somewhat reminiscent of the music of that other West-African troubadour, Boubacar Traoré. Absolute must!
