Even though the name Aka Koxx (Always Known As Koxx) will not ring a bell with most reggae lovers yet, the man already has amassed an impressive musical track record. Born in Clarendon Koxx was soon infected with the music virus. After studying at the Edna Manley College for Visual and Performing Arts, he worked as a musician for artists like Freddie McGregor, Mighty Diamonds and Max Romeo. To flee the cut-throat competition in Jamaica, Koxx decides in 2000 to travel to Europe ending up in Paris where as a member of backing band My Band he quickly gained a reputation in the French scene. On his debut album, 'A New Day', Koxx serves a mix of soulful r&b-influenced new roots and lovers rock. 'Love Tsunami' already got some airplay on Jamaican Irie FM, but yours truly's favorites on the album are title track 'New Day' and 'Living In Unity', a duet with Yaniss Odua. Not all tracks on 'A New Day' are of the same level, but the album sounds convincing enough to predict Aka Koxx a prosperous future.
