Balkan Beat Box emerged a few years ago as the project of Ori Kaplan (ex-Gogol Bordello) and Tamir Muskat, two Israeli music fanatics who accidentally bumped into each other in Brooklyn. Since then the duo has grown into a trio (Tomer Yosef joined the band in 2006), a fact that is nicely symbolized by the Balkan Beat Box logo (the three hands forming a "B"). Even more than on their two previous albums (2005's 'Balkan Beat Box' and 2007's 'Nu Med') the trio mixes a range of styles from dancehall and hip hop over klezmer and Balkan music to bhangra, cumbia to a danceable whole. Balkan Beat Box specializes in "in your face" party music, but who those listening carefully will often discover deep-seated messages in the songs of the trio ('Blue Eyed Black Boy', 'War Again').
