Luciano Blotta, director of the acclaimed 2009 documentary 'RiseUp' now focuses his energy on disclosing what he describes as "the Jamaican underground". The first artist to emerge from anonymity is a certain Andrew Chin aka Brushy, son of Freddie McKay and self-proclaimed "king of the one string". Like a Jamaican version of Seasick Steve, Brushy virtuously extracts melodies and rhythms from a shabby one-stringed guitar. Sometimes his music resembles reggae, but at other times it rather resembles blues. 'The King Of One String' is really nothing more than a glorified demo (on some tracks you can clearly hear the neighborhood sounds in the background), but in this case that only adds extra charm. The proceeds of this album should serve to give Brushy the chance to record some of his songs in a full-fledged recording studio. This could definitely be the next big thing and we wish Brushy nothing less!
