The release of 'Mek It Run' is preceded by a bit of a painful story as compiler/producer Dennis Bovell, because of recent surgery he underwent on a cervical vertebra, was forced to quit playing the bass for a while. To keep busy, Bovell suggested the Pressure Sounds label pulling something from his archives and the result is 'Mek It Run'. With a number of master tapes filled with tracks dating from the late 1970s to early 1980s, Dennis went to Mad Professor's Ariwa Studio to give the songs the dub treatment. When deejay veteran I-Roy visited the United Kingdom for the first time, he was backed by Matumbi and 'Dub d'Cap'n', a dub version of 'Wap'n Bap'n', is an ode to the master. The songs on 'Mek It Run' may all be over thirty years old, Bovell hasn't lost touch with current events as proven by titles like 'After The Storm (Tahrir Rock)', a reference to Cairo's Tahrir square, the symbol of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, or 'Vargen (Dub for Basboosa)' (Basboosa being the nickname of Mohammed Bouazizi, the Tunisian street vendor who set himself on fire out of desperation unintentionally sparking the Arab Spring).
