For conceptual artist and musician Liam Farrell aka Doctor L the photos and videos he makes, are just as important as the music on 'The Great Depression' (the first part of what eventually should become a triptych). For the album he collaborated, among others, with drummer Tony Allen ('By Surprise'), singer Asa ('Total Chaos') and the New York afrobeat ensemble Antibalas ('Family A Fear' an interpretation of Sly & The Family Stone's 'Family Affair'). This all results in a mix of spoken word, afrobeat, soul and jazz and evokes memories of the work of The Last Poets.
