São Paulo-based Bixiga 70 we already introduced you to, but of course Brazil's largest city is home to a number of other young bands. One we'd certainly like to recommend is Nomade Orquestra. The sound on this self-titled and completely instrumental debut album is firmly rooted in jazz, but the nomads flavor their music with a sauce of funk, soul, afrobeat, Ethio-jazz, dub and hip-hop. If there's one song in the track list that drew our attention it has to be 'Morning Birds', in which Otis Trio's Beto Montag's marimba plays a lead role. For 'Garuda' Nomade Orquestra also invited a guest musician, this time Luciano Sallun working wonders on his oud. Fascinating soundscape one moment reminiscent of the soundtrack to a 1970s Blaxploitation movie, the next delving into Mulatu Astatke's Ethio-jazz universe and ending up in a funky jazz club somewhere in downtown São Paulo!
