'Elements' is the debut effort by Showarma I Els Falefels, the new band of Marti Vilardebo, drummer with the now defunct Dusminguet. In the past few years, the band already released 'Mar' ("sea", 2010), 'Tierra' ('earth', 2011) and 'Cielo' ("heaven", 2014), and 'Elements' is essentially a reflection of these demos or, if you prefer, a collection of the three aforementioned elements. The name of the band hides a whole philosophy: of course it refers to Marti's nickname "Showarma", but terms like shoarma/döner kebab and falafel of course also remind one of the popular snacks from the Middle East and with their music Showarma I Els Falafels want to create a similar exotic atmosphere. In addition, the name evokes memories of stories like 'Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves' or 'Alice In Wonderland', universes were fantasy and adventure reign supreme. The cover illustrations by Josep Solé for a moment made us doubt whether this were a children's album or not, but on 'Elements' Vilardebo, who for Showarma I Els Falafels left his place behind the drums to take the microphone and play guitar, serves the trusted mestizo-mix of salsa ('Vive La Vida'), rumba catalana, reggae/dancehall ('Somas Tantas Cosas', 'Febre'), rock ('Així') and a bunch of other genres.
