'Supernatural Love' hails the return of Sidestepper, trendsetters and innovators in the Colombian music scene ever since the mid-1990s. The band around DJ/producer Richard Blair this time opted for a more organic sound they like to describe as electro acoustic, creating beats and rhythms with acoustic instruments like mbiras, hand drums, shakers and flutes. Blair, back then still working as a sound engineer for Peter Gabriel's Real World Records label, drew inspiration for what eventually would become the Sidestepper project, from working on Toto La Momposina's 'La Candela Viva' album in 1992. Those same Afro-Colombian influences are still reflected in songs like 'Magangué', 'La Flor Y La Voz' or 'Come See Us Play', but 'Supernatural Love' just as well contains calypso ('On The Line') and americana (title track 'Supernatural Love', 'Supernatural Soul'). In the absence of a recording contract, Richard decided to turn to crowdfunding for the financing of 'Supernatural Love'. Those who contributed already received the album in the spring of last year, but 'Supernatural Love' is now also distributed by Real World Records, thus making Richard Blair come full circle.
