Fans of the Soundway Records label will certainly recognize The Funkees as several songs by this Nigerian afro-rock combo were already included on the different Nigeria Special compilations. The band was formed by Harry Mosco Agada (at the time guitarist with Celestine Ukwu's Music Royals) at the end of the Nigerian civil war sometime in the early nineteen seventies. After promotors from the United Kingdom also started to show interest the band moved to London where they recorded two more albums before splitting in 1977.

More material from the funky West-Africa of the 1970s comes in the form of 'Make It fast, Make It Slow', the second album Ghanaian ROB (Rob Raindorf) recorded for the Essiebons label. At the time this album was anything but a success, but today it's a real collector's item. For 'Make It Fast, Make It Slow' ROB joined hands with Mag-2, a military brass band led by Amponsah Rockson and it's that horn section that really gives the album its identity.
