VP Records puts the Jamaican music's 50-year jubilee in the spotlight with the three-part compilation 'Out Of Many: 50 Years Of Reggae Music'. The label even has an extra reason to celebrate as it was in 1961 that Vincent Chin opened Randy's Record Mart on 17 North Parade in Kingston. The first disc in this box therefore opens appropriately with the first single that appeared on Chin's Creative Calypso label back in those days, Lord Creator's 'Independent Jamaica' dating from 1962. These days VP Records combine their catalog with that of Greensleeves, so for this compilation they were able to draw from an extensive archive and the track list of the three discs features hit after hit after hit. What really sets this compilation apart though is the fact VP Records tried to select a track to represent each of the fifty years gone by. The compilation ends with the same song it opens with, 'Independent Jamaica', this time in a 2012 update sung by Peetah Morgan and Hollie Cook.
