When the biography of a band immediately makes mention of their success at the Eurovision Song Contest, that sets off alarm bells with yours truly, although in the case of Moldovan band Zdob Si Zdub that is perhaps a little premature. 'Basta Mafia!' is far removed from the often kitschy entries of the Eurovision Song Contest, but that doesn't exactly mean this album blew us away either, because it all sounds just a bit too punk rock-like (title track 'Basta Mafia' and 'Haiduk' being nice exceptions). 'Basta Mafia!' is somewhat reminiscent of the work of Balkan Beat Box and is a nice illustration of the blurring musical borders between Eastern and Western Europe.
