Surprisingly enough this self-titled fifth album by Antibalas (Spanish for "bulletproof") was yours truly's first acquaintance with this Brooklyn, New York based afrobeat collective. Antibalas plays afrobeat like Fela would have wanted it (it's no coincidence the band was involved in the musical about the Nigerian afrobeat pioneer): bold, funky, with plenty of room for the horn section and a singer (Duke Amayo) with a nice Nigerian pidgin accent. For album opener 'Dirty Money', the band already recorded a funny Muppets-like clip. Six tracks, that's what you'll have to make do with, but take it from yours truly: this album is one grooving party starter!
