For the very first time the Sublime Frequencies label travelled to Burkina Faso where they joined forces with Baba Commandant & The Mandingo Band. Baba (born Mamadou Sanou) first earned his spurs as a dancer with Koule Dafourou and then as a singer and donso ngoni player with groups like Dounia and Victor Démé's backing band. As his main influences Sanou cites Nigerian greats like Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade, but also Moussa Doumbia, Mali's answer to James Brown. That list of names should already tell you what to expect on 'Juguya' ("wickedness"): kickass groovy African funk rock and afrobeat! Excellent album debut we already guarantee a spot in our world music album top 10 for 2015!
