Bass Culture is a multicultural band which for over two decades has been operating from the French commune of Sartrouville (Île-de-France) and shouldn't be confused with the Brussels sound system of the same name. The band's album output over the years has been rather limited as 'Guantanamo' is only their third release to date (after 'Welcome To Zion' in 1989 and 'Only Us' in 1998). Bass Culture was founded in 1984 by bassist Slimane Hassaine aka Dob Rise and plays classic roots reggae with a strong revolutionary message (illustrated on this new album by songs like 'Guantanamo', 'Mumia Abu Jamal' and 'Brutalité') and alternately sung in French, English and Wolof.
