Even though yours truly had never heard of Bryan Art, the man seems to have built himself quite a reputation within the Jamaican reggae scene. Art started his career as a member of the Firehouse Crew and pushed on as band leader of the Grass Roots Band, Bushman's backing band. Bryan is most sought after as a song writer, a talent for which, among others, George Nooks, Singing Melody, Bushman, Luciano and Etana already appealed on him. With this untitled debut album Brian proves he can also stand his ground behind the microphone. Bryan Art's slightly hoarse voice perfectly fits the kind of repertoire that also made Beres Hammond great. In 'Best Of My Love' he literally sings: "Baby without apology, love is what I do best", and we fully agree with that statement. The absolute hit songs on this album are without any doubt 'Murder Dem A Play', a duet over the Skylarking riddim with a Queen Ifrica in great shape and 'Rock And Come In', a party-track on the I'm Still In Love riddim. Absolute discovery!
