Barely two months after the release of 'Wolverhampton', the "new" album by Capital Letters on the Reggae Archive Records label which in the end turned out to be a reworking of their 2011 'Planet Earth' album, Greensleeves now presents this reissue of 'Vinyard', the band's second from 1982. Greensleeves/VP Records clearly put some effort in this re-release: for the liner notes John Masouri interviewed different members of the band and the original 10 tracks on 'Vinyard' were supplemented with no less than 7 bonus tracks. It's those songs - four never before released tracks recorded during the sessions for the 'Headline News' album and three live versions the band performed for the John Peel Sessions on BBC Radio 1 - that are the real gems on this release. Not that there's anything wrong with the original tracks - along with 'Headline News', the songs on 'Vinyard' belong to Capital Letters' finest - but tracks like 'Oh Politician', 'What Would You Do' or 'How Far Can A Man Run', which only a lack of space could have prevented from being included on because of lack of space the track list of the 'Headline News' album, are nothing less than instant classics. If you're looking for a Capital Letters at the best of their game, you'd better forget 'Wolverhampton' and purchase 'Vinyard' instead!
