Is Badasonic Records on its way to becoming the Belgian answer to the American Daptone Records label (Charles Barkley, The Frightnrs, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings...)? In any case, it kind of looks that way, as after enjoyable vintage vibes of Reggae Workers Of The World, the collaboration of Slackers keyboard player Vic Ruggiero, Aggrolites vocalist/guitarist Jesse Wagner and Badasonics multi-instrumentalist Nico Leonard, from a few months ago, the rest of The Badasonics now joined forces with American soul, r&b, ska and rocksteady diva Caz Gardiner (The Ambitions, The Checkered Cabs, Caz and The Day Labourers). On 'Caz Gardiner & The Badasonics' this results in an infectious mix of Motown style soul like in opener 'Out Of Time' or 'Never Gonna Let', but also more rocksteady-flavored tracks like 'Be Good', 'Wheel Of Life', 'With You' or the delicious 'Tic Tac Toe', supplemented with successful covers like Marcia Griffiths' 'Feel Like Jumping' or Janis Joplin's 'Piece Of My Heart'; a style the Walloon band baptized: soulsteady. Top album that can easily compete with the better Daptone releases in your collection. Keep them coming guys!
