Cocoa Tea is just about always a guarantee for a good album, but with 'In A Di Red' he really surpassed himself. As usual 'In A Di Red' contains a balanced mixture of new roots and lovers tunes. The fact Cocoa runs with the times is proven by 'So Long', a tune in which he smoothly asks a girl for her Skype and Facebook address. 'Trickster' is a successful duet, with Lady G playing the role of a so-called "gold digger" (a woman who only goes after rich men), but hearing Cocoa Tea rhyme with the word penis remains a tad odd: "Man have dem brain inna dem penis and dem have a weakness for sweetness...". In 'Weh De Reggae Deh?', a song on a nyahbinghi inspired riddim, Cocoa rightly wonders where the reggae has gone in Jamaica. Cocoa Tea is at his best in female companionship, proven by 'Love Is', a reworking of the Dennis Brown classic 'It's Magic' (over the Hypocrites riddim) alongside D'Angel. Title song 'In A Di Red' and 'Poverty Line' were also recorded over classic riddims (a reworking of Stars and the Studio One classic Throw Me Corn) obviously making Cocoa feel in his element. Without the slightest doubt one of the top reggae releases of 2012!
