Who remembers Rebel MC? With his poppy mix of dance, jungle and reggae, the Londoner, born Michael West, scored a few hits in the early nineteen nineties. The more conscious 'Black Meaning Good' (Desire Records, 1991) quickly followed his debut 'Rebel Music' (Desire Records, 1990), but after that there was silence until 2005's 'Born Again'. That rebirth apparently stuck, because Rebel MC now goes by the name Congo Natty. Like the title 'Jungle Revolution' suggests, musically Congo Natty stays true to his jungle/drum & bass roots, but the lyrics on this record are classic roots. Congo Natty is supported by local London talents like Tenor Fly, Tippa Irie, General Levy, Sweetie Irie (make sure to check out 'UK Allstars', an ode to these artists from the nineteen eighties and nineties) and many more. Jungle revolution indeed!
