July 7th 2007 must have been just about the most overbooked wedding date in years, but it was also the 30th anniversary of the album that would give Culture iconic status: 'Two Sevens Clash'. Joseph Hill, the lead singer of the band who passed away last year, wrote the eponymous title track after getting a vision during a bus ride to Kingston. Rolling Stone described the album as: "One of the 50 coolest records ever made!" and after such accolades, what is left for us to add? In any case the Shanachie label thought a couple bonus tracks wouldn't go amiss; the versions with I Roy and lesser known talent Prince Weedy are absolutely top notch and 'See Dem Dub', with a majestic Uziah 'Sticky' Thompson on percussion, is simply put reggae at its best. Definite must have for all roots fanatics!
