As the cover picture already beautifully illustrates, 'Womama' (roughly translated "I salute you"), the successor to 'Djeli', the album debut of Guinean kora-player Djeli Moussa Condé, is meant as a tribute to the African continent. Condé's musical recipe has largely remained unchanged: West-African rhythms supplemented with influences from rumba ('La Salsa Africana', 'Miri'), funk ('African Bond') and even a dash of reggae ('Lady', with a lyric like: "Sexy lady, what do you want, I want to give you my life..." lyrically the least interesting track on 'Womama'). This time an important role is also reserved for the flute of Renaud Tenoux (as can be seen in the video to title track 'Womama'). For now our faith in the Guinean djeli remains unaltered, but nevertheless found 'Womama' just a tad less contagious than its predecessor.
