Dr. Dubenstein, sort of an alien version of Mary Shelly's Dr. Frankenstein, is the alter ego of Derrick Parker, a producer from Washington D.C. who in the past still worked for Dr. Dread's RAS Records. For the dubby 'Conspiracy Theory', Dr. Dubenstein collaborated with musicians from Steel Pulse, Dub Syndicate and Roots Radics ('Flabba's I Pad' is a nod to bass player Errol 'Flabba' Holt), and for the vocal parts the doctor called on a diverse range like Rootsy Nassir and Nesta Lion from France, Rebecca Walker and Argentinean singer Solana Carrega. 'Pentigon Bomb Dub' and of course title track 'Conspiracy Theory' are clear illustrations of the fact Dubenstein is a supporter of some of the conspiracy theories surrounding the attacks on 9-11, in 'Black Dragon Society' Nesta Lion summarizes the history of reggae, but our favorite track on 'Conspiracy Theory' is 'Black Men', featuring the voices of black heroes like Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
