From the list of bands adding color to the so-called Roots Revival we can't leave out Dubtonic Kru, founded in 2003 by drummer Jubba White and bassist Stone Strickland. Their previous effort, 2013's 'Evolution', didn't really blow us away, but with 'Dub Conscious' Dubtonic Kru seems to go back to their first albums - 'Jungle Fever' and 'Dub Tonic' - both including several instrumental tracks and dub versions. Opener 'Pitchy Patchy' is an earworm with a chorus immediately nestling itself in your brain. Another top tune is '99%' in which Dubtonic Kru criticizes the all dominating 1% super rich who, as we could recently learn in the press, already control 50% of all property! 'The Highest' is an excellent ganja-anthem and when for songs like 'Mankind' and 'Somewhere Inna Africa' even guests like Protoje and Iba MaHr make an appearance, you know the party has really started. The track list of 'Dub Conscious' also contains one live-recording; 'Drum N' Bass' was recorded in Poland and is meant as a thank you to the band's solid fan base over there. The dubstep closing track 'Everlasting Love' we could have done without, but that small faux-pas doesn't take away from the fact that with 'Dub Conscious' Dubtonic Kru has created an outstanding album.
