For Family Atlantica, Heliocentrics percussionist/flutist Jack Yglesias and his wife, Venezuelan Luzmira Zerpa, went in search of some like-minded musicians to create a psychedelic, percussion driven trip in which diverse influences (Cuban rumba, Venezuelan tonada and tambor, Trinidadian calypso, Ghanaian highlife...) blend into a homogeneous sound. For 'Escape To The Palenque' they even managed to persuade Ethio-jazz grand master Mulatu Astatke to lend a hand and Senegalese bard Nuru Kane and Afro-Cuban band Yoruba Andabo also make an appearance. Although fascinating listening material, this self-titled album will not be to everyone's taste as it's just a little too far out there!
