In 2009 Knitting Factory Records was given an official license by the Fela Anikulapo Kuti Estate for the worldwide distribution of the master's catalog. Knitting Factory Records is currently working on the reissue of the entire, nearly 50 albums counting, oeuvre of Fela, but 2009's 'The Best Of The Black President 1' and 'The Best Of The Black President 2' are already a perfect starting point. The tracks on these two double albums will offer little new material to real afrobeat enthusiasts and appear on various other Fela compilations, but for those who still have to get to know Kuti's greasy afrobeat, these 'Best Of' compilations are the perfect introduction.
