Jahcoustix states he discovered reggae while traveling in Kenya, but his debut album, 'Grounded', can hardly be classified as pure roots reggae as it sounds just a little too sophisticated. On 'Appreciation' Jahcoustix sounds like Finley Quaye (where has he disappeared to?) and 'The Truth Behind It All' has a hint of Garland Jeffreys. Other songs on 'Grounded' sound just that little bit too commercial. All this just to say that Jahcoustix is definitely a talent to keep an eye on... even outside the boundaries of the reggae genre.
