No to criticize previous releases, but 'Live It To Know It', a compilation of self-produced tracks recorded between 1975 and 1985 by ex-Sensations and Uniques vocalist, and father of Tarrus Riley, Martin Norman Riley aka Jimmy Riley, was the first Pressure Sounds release in a long time we were really looking forward to. Rightly so as it turns out, because this compilation offers solid roots tune after solid roots tune. In addition, for just about every track on 'Live It To Know It' a dub version was also added and where this isn't the case it mostly concerns extended mixes also ending in dub (the only exception in the track list is closing track 'Poor Immigrant'). Riddim fanatics also catered for on 'Live It To Know It': 'Jackit' is a version over the same riddim The Itals also used for their 'Time Will Tell', and 'Majority Rule' is a delicious cut over the Tribulation riddim. Sly Dunbar describes Jimmy, with whom he frequently collaborated in the early days of the Taxi label, as a cross between David Ruffin (The Temptations) and Teddy Pendergrass (Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes), and this excellent compilation proves Riley is much more than "the father of".
