Shakin' Weld has once again come out of hibernation and that is traditionally the time when Zjef likes to enrapture us with some of his newest world music discoveries. One of these is Chilean band Juana Fé, already hugely popular in their home country and now also well on their way on an international level. With their third album 'La Makinita' ("the little machine") they wanted to deliver the album they had always dreamt about. The album is dedicated to Lucio Urtubia, a Spanish anarchist and notorious forger, who devoted his life to the fight against capitalism and great power states. Content-wise this sets the tone 'La Makinita' wants to convey: often leftwing inspired lyrics ('Yankee Man', 'La Makinita', 'No Era Cecilia') wrapped in a range of styles ranging from cumbia over reggae to rock and salsa. Nice perk for those who still like an album in physical form are the beautiful illustrations by Pablo de la Fuente (for more, please visit www.flickr.com/delafuentegalvez). Bring em' on Zjef, we are ready!
