La Minor was founded in Saint Petersburg back in 2000 by Slava Shalygin, Alexander Yezhov and Pyotr Ketlinsky, but stylistically is rather at home in Odessa, the main port in Ukraine and a melting pot of nationalities. From a musical point of view La Minor holds the middle between Russian chanson, folk, jazz and so-called Odessa klezmer. Their lyrics talk about gangsters, prostitutes, jail and - this is Russian music after all - alcohol and are inspired by the blatnjak, timeless tearjerkers from Russian folklore that were forbidden during the Communist regime and could only be heard in the privacy of the living room.
