Ever since 2002, six piece band Les Cerveaux Lents is a side project allowing musicians from Absynthe Minded and Va Fan Fahre to explore genres like klezmer and gypsy music. In 2013, the project was revived with a fresh repertoire; culminating in the release of a self-titled EP and now also this long player 'Heiβ Und Fürchterlich' (the title is a reference to a quote from a letter Franz Kafka wrote to Oskar Pollak). But please don't focus too much on the aforementioned genres, as on this album, Les Cerveaux Lents far exceed those musical boundaries: opener 'Tanz' is swinging gipsy jazz, 'Jump' starts out as pure klezmer, but soon gets a jazzy undertone, for 'Falash Mura' the sextet even throws some rocksteady into the mix, in 'Sputraum Nach Mizwa' you can hear echo's from tango and, as the title suggests, 'Une Petite Lumière Et La Valse' is in essence a waltz. Party orchestra that could have been plucked from a smoky club in roaring nineteen twenties Berlin.
