When Mahala Raï Banda presented its eponymous debut album, a musical experiment for which violinist Aurel Ionita united the instruments of the taraf with that of the brass bands, to the world back in 2004, it became an instant hit. Sequel 'Ghetto Blasters' offers exactly what the title suggests, because the band lets old Gypsy traditions blend with modern pop (a style called "manele"), cabaret ('Zabrakadabra'), jazz ('Balada') and even reggae ('Balkan Reggae'). The fact Mahala for this album could count on the vocal assistance of people like Jony Iliev, Antoin 'Tato' Garcia (Kaloome) and Dan Armeanca, can only be considered a bonus. 'Ghetto Blasters' guarantees at least 45 minutes of authentic Gypsy madness and with the right attitude one could consider it an instant classic.
