The album debut of Miramar, an American band around vocalists Reinaldo Alvarez and Laura Ann Singh and arranger Marlysse Simmons-Argandoña, became a tribute to Porto Rican musician Sylvia Rexach. For Miramar the trio drew inspiration from bolero-duos from the nineteen forties and fifties: "When I first heard duo music, specifically Duo Irizarry De Cordova, to me it was a new expression of pain and longing. It was a concrete manifestation of everything that I love about romantic music." It was finally 'Sylvia Rexach, Su Musica', an album by Duo Irizarry De Cordova full of Sylvia's songs, which introduced them to Rexach's universe. Sylvia Rexach was born in 1922 and was a self-taught piano and guitar player. Even though she's still relatively unknown outside of Puerto Rico, her work can be compared to that of Chavela Vargas or Violeta Parra. Absolute gem for romantic souls!
