'El Gaucho' is a documentary by Andres Jarach; a road movie about the misadventures of Argentine cowboy Andres Retamal. For the soundtrack he secured the help of Christoph Müller and Eduardo Makaroff, two-thirds of the tango nuevo collective Gotan Project, who For 'El Gaucho' did not focus on tango, but on its older cousins milonga and zamba. 'El Gaucho' is primarily an instrumental album that takes you from the Cordillera mountain range to the Patagonian pampas. The sparse vocals were done by Daniel Melingo, who in the movie also takes the role of off-screen narrator. The Mañana label, which always includes a pop-up in its CD cases, deserves praise for their original view on music marketing.
