Nish Wadada (born Eunice Vieira), is a Dutch singer of Cape Verdean descent from Rotterdam, quickly making a name for herself in the European roots and dub scene. Initially mainly active in the world music scene, Nish gradually became more and more fascinated by reggae and Rastafari. For this 'Queens & Kings' EP, she joined forces with Portuguese producer Pedro Delmas, the man behind Delmighty Sounds. Wadada's voice unwillingly reminded yours truly of female Ariwa vocalists like Kofi or Aisha, something Pedro Delmas, who gave the songs on 'Queens & Kings' a sturdy roots and UK steppers sound, undoubtedly also had a hand in. For the most part of the excellent horn arrangements on 'Queens & Kings' Nish and Pedro called on veteran UK trombonist Matic Horns. Most ear-catching tune on this EP is opener 'Africa', for which Nish managed to entice Cedric Myton to lend a hand. 'Queens & Kings' counts five tracks, but if you purchase the entire EP, two bonus tracks - 'Empress Menen', a tribute to Haile Selassie's spouse, and the meditative 'Zion'- are added for free.
