There was a time when Pierpoljak seemed destined to become France's answer to Gentleman, but where, for example, Raggasonic continued on a more Jamaican course, Pierpoljak steared his music in a more acoustic direction. His dreadlocks have gone and the music he makes nowadays strongly resembles that of Tryo interspersed with narrative poppy reggae à la Tonton David. And although appreciated in France, internationally this kind of music is harder to market. Yours truly would have preferred this 'Best Of' to have contained more tracks from Pierpoljak's early years (for those curious about his Jamaican excursions 'Tracks & Dub Plates' is certainly recommended), because the songs Universal selected are at times "reggae light" at most. Nevertheless this is an enjoyable collection of hits by one of France's reggae veterans yours truly will gladly wake up to on a Sunday morning.
