RADIO77 is the brainchild of New York veteran DJ Joey Radio, who, with this project, for which he collaborated with, among others, Dubmatix, successfully attempted to mix dub with new wave influences. DJ Joey Radio: "The influences and inspiration for the RADIO77 sound all come out of my years in downtown NYC. We had everything from all over the world in just a couple blocks - it was a neighborhood culture, but based on influences from all over the world". In the track list 4 songs ranging from opener 'I Only Have Eyes For You' (originally a jazz standard from the nineteen thirties, but better known in the 1959 doowop version of The Flamingos and later also immortalized, among others, by Peggy Lee, Art Garfunkel and The Three Degrees), the Carlton & The Shoes classic 'Love Me Forever', 'Tonight', the famous duet by the late David Bowie and Iggy Pop, and finally 'Walking On The Moon' by The Police (seeing Echo Beach continue its tradition of excellent reggae-/dub versions of Police classics, see also 'Dubxanne: The Police In Dub'). More than successful cross-over experiment!
