Following in the footsteps of Tarrus Riley and, of course, Clinton Fearon, the godfather of acoustic reggae, Richie Spice has now also given a few of his songs an acoustic twist ('Agony', a disco song with a Michael Jackson vibe being the only exception on 'Soothing Sounds'). Even though the idea behind 'Soothing Sounds' might be far from original, the execution of the songs on the album is without default. It's above all the original choice of instruments that makes 'Soothing Sounds' stand out (the banjo on 'All Night', the didgeridoo on 'Searching'). Successful experiment yours truly would be only too happy checking out live!
