Ghentian Simon Decante, aka Saimn-I, has been a part of the Belgian reggae scene for some time now and you will probably know him as the side-kick of Collieman or as one of the band members of Pura Vida. And yet, it has taken him until now to release a fully-fledged solo album. The freely downloadable 'More To The Picture Than Meets The Eye' is a mix of different genres ranging from reggae over dubstep to hip-hop and trip-hop and reflects Saimn-I's musical versatility. The question remains though whether fans of the different genres mentioned will get their fill from the 19 songs counting track list. In all honesty yours truly was expecting a little more reggae on 'More To The Picture Than Meets The Eye', but the songs that made the cut (the amazing dub track 'Eastern Skank', the duet with Collieman 'Somewhere') are definitely worthwhile. Our personal favorite is 'Why', in which Saimn-I sings to us with a wonderful falsetto voice, reminiscent of The Congos. 'More To The Picture Than Meets The Eye' confirms Saimn-I's status as a heavyweight in the Belgian deejay-scene!
