'The General' is a title that leaves no room for doubt: with this first independent release, Sanchez wants to make clear that he's still on top! Opener 'I Need A Dollar' is a successful reggae cover of Aloe Blacc's world hit (in the track list you can also find 'If Something's Wrong With My Baby' on that same riddim). With the dubstep influenced 'Damn', Sanchez also tries to please the younger generation of reggae lovers. 'My Jamaica' is Sanchez's contribution to the celebrations surrounding the Caribbean island's fifty years of independence. And of course the track list also contains a few well-known riddims: 'Dead Tonight' is an update of the Stalag 17 riddim, for 'Food For The Brain', Sanchez sought inspiration in the classic Please Be True riddim, 'Fluffy Love' is one for the quizzers among you because it combines the M16 with the Hypocrites riddim and 'Free Up Yourself' recycles the Burning Spear classic 'He Prayed'. 'The General' is not Sanchez's best album ever - the computer-controlled instrumentation leaves a little to be desired - but it certainly does not disappoint!
