A Prophet is seldom honored in his own country, and that certainly applies to Seagulls, a three-piece Ostend formation consisting of brothers Sil (vocals, guitar and harmonica), Ward (drums, backing vocals, slide guitar) and Bavo Meeus (bass, backing vocals), who with 'Regg 'N Roll' are already presenting their second EP. The trio combines reggae and ska with indie rock, rock 'n' roll and surf. For reggae purists the reggae and ska on this five track EP might be spread too thinly, because actually only up-tempo ska-opener 'The City', title track 'Regg 'N Roll' and closing track 'Banana' fall within the reggae genre. Concerning the band's name: if you come from a coastal town like Ostend, it's hard to get around those seabirds, but of course it’s also a nod to the family name of the three brothers Meeus ("meeuw" is Dutch for Seagull). Light-footed feel-good music with a nod to the oeuvre of Manu Chao and Mano Negra ('Dirty Moustache').
