Sergent Garcia's last album, 'Mascaras' already dates back to 2006. For that album, he traveled to Mexico, where he was inspired by local music traditions. Garcia apparently fell in love with the subcontinent as for 'Una Y Otra Vez' he once again travelled to South-America. 'Una Y Otra Vez' was recorded in Valencia and Paris, but Colombia played a very important role as Garcia collaborated there with Erica Muñoz (one of the voices of Sidestepper), some musicians of La-33 (just about the most popular Colombian salsa band of the moment), and Li Saumet, lead female vocalist for Bomba Estereo. Yours truly got to know the sergeant at the time of 'Un Poquito Quema'o' (Garcia's second album dating from 1999 and putting him on the music map worldwide) and wondered whether his sound had not yet exceeded its sell-by date. Not so, apparently: title track 'Una Y Otra Vez' still carries Garcia's old salsa-muffin stamp, but the rest of the album is abuzz with enjoyable rhythms.
