To be introduced as Protoje's protégé, we guess needs a bit of getting used to, but for Sevana it's a daily reality. The young singer from Westmoreland, who, because of her enchanting voice, got the nickname 'The Siren', already made an appearance on Protoje's 'Ancient Future' album ('Sudden Flight' and 'Love Gone Cold'), but now also presents this self-titled debut-EP. In the track list of course her debut single 'Bit Too Shy' and the popular 'Chant It', but also four brand new songs, all produced by tandem Protoje/Winta James. Sevana is clearly does not mind bearing her soul: opener 'Carry You' (with a guitar lick reminiscent of Grace Jones' 'La Vie En Rose') is dedicated to her brother, with whom she has an excellent relationship, and the heartbreaking 'Rawle' is about a recently departed childhood friend. Personally, we were most taken with 'Love The Way', a song for which Winta James recycled the infectious Every Tongue Shall Tell riddim. Etana'd better watch out as Sevana is definitely a lady to keep an eye on!
