It's almost a musical given: if you stay in the reggae business long enough, sooner or later you'll inevitably bump into riddim twins Sly & Robbie. For 'Overdubbed', Canadian producer and multi-instrumentalist Dubmatix gave a dozen of the duo's instrumentals his signature eclectic touch, going from the more industrial sounding opener 'Dictionary' over classic rockers dub like 'Ruff House' to vocal versions like the enjoyable 'Communication Breakdown' feat. Jay Spaker. Our personal favorites from the track list: 'Dirty Flirty' feat. Pato Irie, spiced with tropical Brazilian percussion, the Indian influences in 'Burru Saturday', the excellent 'Frenchman Code' featuring Jamaican Canadian Treson on vocals, and finally lovers tune 'Smoothie' featuring Prince Alla, Screechy Dan & Megative also tickled our fancy. Excellent tribute to an iconic Jamaican duo.
